Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Aree and the Pure Heart commands a classic anthemic-rock sound mixed with a punk rawness and a penchant for punchy power-chords. Formed only recently in 2015, founding members Aree Ogir (Vocals, Guitar, Bass) and 'Sheppard' (Drums) recorded their debut EP, Heartsongs, as a duo. After gaining a following, they decided to put together a full band to begin touring and have now signed with label Terminus City.

Another especially notable song on this EP is "American Love". This relatively stripped down song brings in elements of americana. Lyrics detailing the "classic" American love story make it a throwback to earlier times, while also maintaining a modern twist. Under-driven guitars accompanied by a fat bass line create a sense of "tough sensitivity" that is furthered by the lyrics and vocal style. Muted power chords help to establish the "American" style that permeates the whole song.

Aree and the Pure Heart have successfully brought together Americana, classic rock, and punk rock to create a unique sound. Their songs, littered with catchy hooks and soulful lyrics, as well as powerful, driving guitar and drum instrumentals, evoke a sense of nostalgia and wanderlust for freedom in life and in music. Plans to release a full-length album through their new label are underway and I look forward to hearing it, as I'm sure is evident by my enthusiasm for their unique sound. I highly recommend checking out their music on BandCamp and visiting their Facebook page to stay updated on their shows and forthcoming music.
