Endless Riddles

          Hailing from Namur, Belgium, Endless Riddles brings together aspects of acoustic music with alternative stylings to create an engaging blend with strong appeals to emotion.  The brother-sister duo formed in late 2014 when Pierre Schifflers (All Instruments/Vocals) asked his sister, Axelle (Vocals), to collaborate on his debut EP (Endless Riddles).  Their recent sophomore EP, Stable Ground, features the increased inclusion of Axelle's vocals and brings in more delicate elements of the Schifflers' style.

          The track "Ocean" reveals the softer acoustic side of the duo.  Beginning with a simple acoustic guitar intro, Pierre's thoughtful vocals are featured prominently.  With the end of the first verse, the audio mix becomes more complex with notably heavy drums and electric guitar dubs.  The track progressively becomes more complex, as the various instruments become increasingly audible.  As the lyrics become ever more metaphorical and introspective, Axelle joins her brother in harmony.  The effect is quite unexpected, yet warming.  Their vocal chemistry lends itself well to the song, as it showcases the power of mellow yet effective harmonies.  As the song takes an uplifting turn, Pierre's vocals fall further back in the mix to show how well his sister stands alone.  The song concludes with an almost abrupt, yet interesting cut that adds a sense of determination to the lyrics.

          "Escape" features a harder and more lively style of music.  Beginning with similarly heavy drums and carried through by a deep bass groove, both the electric and acoustic guitars sit comfortably above the mix.  Pierre and Axelle's harmonization is more notable on this track and proves strong in a different setting.  The overall tone of the track lends itself well to commercial success, as it brings in elements of pop and more traditional rock.  Ending with a quick fade-out, the song leaves a strong impression and resonates well with the listener.
